The Adventure Continues

Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. Isaiah 43:5 NIV

In my life I have had the opportunity to participate in, what some might call… adventurous endeavors. I have spent time in the Navy serving on a nuclear submarine, I have helped build a church in Dominica, and I nearly drowned white water rafting just to name a few. This summer the adventure continues. I will pack up my family and trek off to The Peoples Republic of China. While a trip of this nature, in and of itself, is potentially life changing, This one will be even more so. We will be picking up our daughter (Kaara) and bringing her home. And then the real adventure begins.

When Noah was born I was pretty much clueless as to what it took to be a dad. Three and a half years later, little has changed. But, Noah is a boy and I do know a thing or two about that. I can throw a baseball, hammer a nail, pee standing up etc. Most of the time I do all right.

Girls on the other hand… …I got nothing.

All joking aside, God bringing my wife to me and allowing us to have a family is an adventure that I wouldn’t trade anything in this world for.

Shortly after we started the adoption process I heard that some (ignorant) people think that it is not possible to love an adopted child as much as a biological one. Uh…Okay. Why would I love a biological child more? …Some shared DNA? I’m glad God doesn’t, feel that way.

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, [a] we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:1-2 NIV

There it is "that we should be called children of God". We are children of the Father. Adopted at a dreadful price, the blood of His Son. And just as my family is precious to me we also are precious to Him. I am eagerly looking forward to the adventure He has set out for my family and me.

I hope that in your adventure of life, you know the love of the Father as a child of God.
